In our grain wine series, we explore how far we can push each ingredient. This year, we combined barley with buckwheat, wheat and rye, then aged the four-grain base in Tennessee whiskey, bourbon and rum barrels. Buckwheat's earthy, nutty character meets the softness of wheat and the spice of rye, rounded out by layers of oak, vanilla and caramel from the barrels.
