It's happened to all of us. A home run with a little too much arm juice that sends the ball flying off a flat roof. A drive after a visit to the bar that sends the ball into the 6th-floor pond. A wrist shot in the cafeteria that sends the foosball ball too close to a lifeguard. That's kind of where this beer gets its name from. We were at Messorem's, playing a quick game of impromptu deck hockey, when a slightly imprecise slap shot made the ball disappear under the barrels. There's no more magic in the name than that.
But in the beer, there... phew! It's heavy! We blended two Barley Wines. One aged 16 months in St. Augustine bourbon barrels and another aged 18 months in Ninkasi French whiskey barrels. Then conditioned with Madagascar vanilla to round out its already very sweet side! It's sick! A beautiful and minimal acidity on the tip of the tongue followed by the light sparkle of carbonation. Chocolatey aromas of caramel brownies, figs, dates, rub shoulders with the woody presence of whiskey and bourbon. Finesse, suppleness, delicacy under an untimely invigorating heat. We may never have found the ball, but we found you a damn good beer! CHEERS!
